Would have loved to participate in this, but I neither have nor want a Twitter Account. Not a critiscim, just letting you know that it sounded like a great thing to do (other than the Twitter involvement). Thanks for being part of these events.

BTW, I participated in a Summer Reading Program last year (while traveling in my RV). Are you going to have that again this year?

Thanks
C Kenny

Hi. We believe you are referring to the office that is also connected to the restrooms that serve those tennis courts. If that's the case, that air conditioning remains on to keep the restrooms cool while the tennis courts are open. If you have additional information and we're thinking of the wrong facilities, please let us know. Thanks!

Have visited some Rec center facilities after hours and noticed air conditioning running constantly(24x7)yet nobody was present at the facility. One facility is the tennis court office at Kuntz. While I am sure I would want a comfortable environment if I was working there, If I was closing that office for the day, I would at least turn up the temp to say 80-85 or even Off if it is a small area and not containing items that require controlled temperature. That's what I do with my own home cause A/C isn't cheap!

Hi K.S. Thank you for your patience as we've taken the time to research a thorough answer to your questions. We hope this answers your concerns, and helps clear up some of the reasons behind why the movies are handled the way they are. The Association extends its appreciation to the Friends of the Library, its many members and its many volunteers for all they do to support our wonderful library. Below is our response to your questions:

In response to your comments on the blog, it must first be pointed out that the Thursday movies at Kuentz Rec Center are not a Recreation Centers of Sun City West Inc. event. They are an activity of the Friends of the Library, which is a chartered club. (These differ from the movies in the park or pool, which are sponsored by the Association, and in many cases are free.)
The Friends of the Library is a chartered club; it is chartered not to support the Association, but to support the Library. The so-called “sold-out” situation is not sold out because the seats cannot be sold. The Friends of the Library must apply for the room to show the movies, like any other chartered club that uses the facility. Because of the restrictions of the movie licenses obtained for the Friends, no admission charge can be applied and no seats can be reserved. They are on a first-come basis. Therefore only a donation that is voluntary can be collected. Some attendees contribute or donate nothing. We cannot require otherwise. All of the donations (monies) received go directly to the Library and not the Association. This also meets the chartered club’s requirements by the IRS.
Regarding Association dues, they cannot be applied as a requirement. However, if the person is paying dues to the Friends of the Library ($2 per person per year), they might have a complaint, but the Friends of the Library has apologized for not being able to accommodate more. The situation of no more room (sold out) is unfortunate and only an occasional occurrence. The Friends are all volunteers and they do the best they can to accommodate as many as they can, and as comfortably as they can.
The restrictions you request cannot be applied in this chartered club, with its tax-exempt status, and with the movie licensing limitations. We will do our best to try and serve all who come. However, it will not be on a rec card basis as this is not an Association event and it does not directly support the Association.
We are aware that a good way to address the “no more room” situation would be to anticipate when these situations are likely to occur, then to schedule a matinee. However, the down side is that we seldom have this theater available for matinees due to other groups using it. We also have a problem with staffing, which is made up of volunteers. It is difficult to find enough volunteers to do two shows in one day. We always welcome more volunteers!
