Hi Bill. In the mid-1990s, there was a fine of about $80,000 levied due to a club operating without the proper IRS designation. It had nothing to do with golf. The Association negotiated that fine down and ultimately had it waved altogether. The current discussion about the Chartered Clubs’ Rules, Regulations and Procedures is not specific to golf. The issue is that IRS regulations forbid our chartered clubs from requiring members to join a non-Association entity such as an outside sanctioning group. This affects all of our clubs, for example, where players might seek ranking from a sanctioning group, such as tennis, bowling, golf, lawn bowling, bridge, etc. Our attorney has advised us that the clubs may offer this service as a separate option to members, but it cannot be a mandatory part of membership.
I have a question regarding Diane Cheney’s comment at the Board Meeting 3/18…” We have been fined some $80K” Does this mean fined by the IRS due to Golf Infractions? I am not clear on the Golf Changes Mr. Williams & Mr. Wilson differ on???

Hi Peggy. I’m sorry you were misinformed. Rewards points do not expire at the end of the year. They expire 12 months after they were earned. We will get the word out to the starters again. Enjoy your golfing and your points – you’ve got more time to spend them!
I see that the Rewards points expire at the end of the year.
I had just purchased two Golf Bags as Christmas Gifts and
appreciated one of the starters to advise me to use my rewards
points as they expire Dec 31st. I think that it would be well
to advise all rewards points recipients of this policy.
