  1. Amber Lockwood says:

Hi there, are there any children’s camps happening in march at the rec center that we can sign up for as guests?
Thanks so much for your time!

    • Multimedia says:

Hello Amber, if you are a guest of a Sun City West member, check out Happy Camp. That’s our program for kids at Spring Break here in the community. Otherwise you might check with some of the local communities like Surprise, Peoria and Glendale.

  2. Jennifer Crismon says:

I am curious how the childrens’ time slots were chosen and whether the residents were permitted to give input before the change occurred. Also would appreciate information on how and to whom a person would address the impact the time change at Beardsley has had on the residents. Thank you!

    • Hi Jennifer. The hours were determined by staff with input from members. We do our best to accommodate everyone’s needs and wishes. You can contact the Beardsley supervisor (623-544-6524) if you have additional input on hours there. Thank you.

  3. Shelli Genn says:

Having grans here 11/18-28/2017 – what pools, with hours, are open to them? Thank you.

    • Multimedia says:

Hello Shelli. Pool hours are: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at R.H. Johnson; 3 to 6 p.m. at Beardsley (indoor); and 5 to 8 p.m. at Palm Ridge (outdoor, unless inclement weather). There are no children’s swim hours at the Kuentz pool. Have fun with the grandkids!

      • Nov. 16 update: There will be a switch between Palm Ridge and Beardsley pool hours beginning Dec. 1, in order to allow children to be at an outdoor pool during the warmer part of the day during the winter. So the new children’s hours ARE: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at R.H. Johnson; 3 to 6 p.m. at Palm Ridge (outdoor); and 5 to 8 p.m. at Beardsley (indoor).

  4. Sandy Whitworth says:

When I took a tour of the different rec centers earlier this year it was mentioned that coolers of food and adult beverages were welcome as long as there was no glass??

  5. George Johnson says:

is alcohol permited at any of your pools

  6. George Johnson says:

How many days of the week are allowed for kids and what are the hours and is there a cost to use the pools?

    • Multimedia says:

Hi George, As I’m sure you’re aware the R.H. Johnson pool is currently closed during construction and will reopen in August. Because of that closure, children’s hours at our other pools have been extended and they are daily. Beardsley pool hours are 10:30 to 1 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. Palm Ridge hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Kuentz does not offer children’s hours. Have fun in the pool!

  7. Marylyn Walker says:

I have a 9 year old granddaughter coming to visit the week before Easter. I am wondering if the basketball hoops at Beardsley Rec Center can be used by her and her family at any time of day or only during children’s swimming pool hours?
    Thank you for your reply…

    • RCSCW PR says:

Hi Marylyn. Thank you for your question. The basketball courts can be used any time of day by any member. You will need to be there with your guest. Have fun!

  8. gretchen novak says:

With Johnson pool being closed, are there any changes in the pool times for children?

    • Multimedia says:

Hi Gretchen, since children’s swim hours at R.H. Johnson are unavailable, the hours at Beardsley and Palm Ridge rec centers have been modified. During the construction period, children’s hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. at Palm Ridge and 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. at Beardsley. There are no children’s hours at Kuentz Rec Center. Thanks for writing.

  9. Patricia Gilmore says:

Hello, My husband and myself will be in Sun City West for months of March and April. I am interested in current information regarding programs etc. Is it possible to get a packet of materials mailed in advance? I notice this site has questions/answers from 2015, I’m guessing it is out of date? Thanks so much.

    • Multimedia says:

Hello Patricia, the policies re: children do not change as a rule, so this post is still current. If you’d like to know what events in general are happening at any given time, you should subscribe to the e-newsletter, which is sent out each Wednesday evening. And please stop by the R.H. Johnson Box Office 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays to explore Happy Camp opportunities for visiting grandchildren during March. Tickets for all events are required, so don’t delay. Thanks for writing.

  10. Beverly domasky says:

My 10 year old grandson will be visiting me 11/20 until 11/28, will he be able to use the pools with my presence?

    • Yes Beverly, as long as all of the above guidelines are followed, your grandson is welcome! Don’t forget, there is also a children’s playground at Beardsley Park and the R.H. Johnson Library has a children’s section as well. You can stop by the Member Services office to pay for guest credits to be added to your Rec Card so that paying the daily guest fee is more convenient. Enjoy your visit!

  11. John Yonkocixh says:

What are childrens hours at the outdoor pools sites? I have a 7 year old grandchild visiting.

    • Multimedia says:

Hello John, thanks for asking this question since others may like to know the pool hours for children as well. They are 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at R.H. Johnson; 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at Palm Ridge (outdoor pool only); and 3 p.m.-6 p.m. at Beardsley. I hope that helps.

  12. Carolyn Schur says:

I am coming to SCW on 4/8 with my grandchildren, ages 1 and 4. They will be visiting for 5 days and this is their first visit. Can you provide the pool hours for children at the different rec centers? Also are there playgrounds with swings, etc that they can use? Any information you have on keeping little ones occupied would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    • RCSCW PR says:

Hi Carolyn. Great news – there are lots of fun activities for your visiting youngsters! Children’s rules can be found here: Children’s swim hours are: 10-1 at Johnson, 5-8 at Palm Ridge outdoor pool, and 3-6 at Beardsley. Children under 4 are permitted if they are potty trained. Mini golf for the 4-year-old is available from 9 to 9 at Beardsley; and 8-noon and 5-9 at Beardsley. Beardsley Park has a great children’s playground. It does not have swings, but it does have slides and climbing areas. The library also has a children’s corner. Check out our calendar for other activities: And be sure to stop by the Visitors Center, located near PORA on Camino del Sol. They have a lot of great information on other children’s activities in the local area. Be sure to stop at Member Services to put money on your account for guest credits. It is $2.70 per day per child to use the rec centers and most other facilities (except bowling and golf), which is collected at your first visit of the day; you will be give a receipt that will provide you with admittance to other locations the rest of the day. If you have additional questions, please call Member Services at 623-544-6100.
