Mindfulness (MBSR) begins, 3-5:30pm

MINDFULNESS-BASED STRESS REDUCTION CLASS (MBSR), 3-5:30 pm for eight weeks and a 7-hour retreat, for a total of 27 hours. Mondays, January 15, 22, 290, February 5, 12, 19, 26, March 5 and 12 and retreat on Saturday, March 3 from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, This is an intensive class designed to relieve stress and improve health for people with chronic illnesses or conditions based on the teaching and research of Jon Kabat-Zinn. The MBSR program is designed to teach mindfulness skills through meditation, mindful movement exercises, inquiry and lecture presentations. Research has demonstrated that participants gain the following benefits from using the skills learned and practiced in the MBSR program: improved ability to manage chronic pain; increased sleep, clarity, focus, and sense of well-being; and lowered blood pressure, heart rate, stress levels, and anxiety. Instructor Lisa Ballard, MA, RN, CCM is an MBSR and Mindfulness Meditation Instructor. She is an RN and Certified Case Manager with more than 16 years of personal Mindfulness Meditation experience. In addition to being a RN, she holds a BA in Psychology and Health Care Management and a Master’s Degree in Psychology. She has participated in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) training and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Teacher Training through the University of California San Diego’s Center for Mindfulness and with Dr. Jon Kabat Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society. As a registered nurse case manager, Lisa has worked with patients struggling with chronic medical conditions and high levels of stress. She has previously worked at both Boswell and Del Webb Hospitals.
