The Recreation Centers of Sun City West Governing Board on July 6 chose a new Director to fill a one-year vacancy, bringing the Board back up to its full contingency of nine.

Two-year Sun City West resident Anita DeGumbia was selected to fill the vacancy from a slate of five candidates who were interviewed on July 6 during an open session at Palm Ridge Recreation Center.

DeGumbia spent 30 years working in the field of state and local taxation, most recently as director of auditors for the Department of Revenue, directing a staff of about 150 with a budget of $20 million. Prior to joining the Department of Revenue, she held positions in Fortune 500 companies including DirecTV, Hughes Electronics and McDonnell Douglas. Most recently she was director of State Tax Consulting at PriceWaterHouseCoopers in its Phoenix Office.

In Sun City West, DeGumbia has served on Sun City West’s Budget and Finance Committee; volunteered as a transportation driver for Northwest Valley Connect; and assisted with the Sun City West Auto Restoration Club’s annual car show. In Surprise, she volunteered for the Surprise Sundancers during Spring Training.

She has held other positions on boards throughout the country including past president of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation; chair of the 2015 conference for the Southeastern Association of Tax Administrators; and coordinator of the Toys for Tots annual car show from 2003-2015 in Roswell, Ga.

DeGumbia will join the board when meetings resume in September.
