Hole-in-one contest offers potential $1 million grand prize

All it takes is one great golf shot and you could win $1 million!

The Recreation Centers of Sun City West’s third-annual hole-in-one contest will offer local golfers the chance to win either $250,000 or a $1 million grand prize, in addition to daily prizes for the four closest to the hole. The beneficiary of this year’s event is KSCW 103.1 FM, which is operated by the Sun City West Broadcast Club.

Sponsored by the Rec Centers and Desert Golf Cars, the event will be held Wednesday, March 14, through Saturday, March 17, at Echo Mesa Golf Course, 20349 N. Echo Mesa Drive, Sun City West. The contest is open to all individuals 18 and older who are amateur golfers.

The event takes place from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday during the contest period, and noon to 4:30 p.m. Saturday on Echo Mesa’s driving range. Cost is $5 for a bag of 7 golf balls (or $20 for 5 bags), with the goal to hit as close as possible to the 125-yard target. There will be multiple hitting stations to accommodate as many participants as possible.

Closest to the hole each day will win a $150 gift card to the RCSCW golf courses, and entry into the finals, which begin 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 17. There will be other daily prizes for second through fourth place.

The finals will consist of nine participants, eight of whom are the daily top two. The ninth qualifier will be someone randomly drawn from all who participated in the contest but didn’t qualify as a daily winner. This allows everyone who plays a chance to make it into the finals. The more a golfer plays, the better his or her chances to make it into the finals.

The driving range will be available for finals warmups at 4:45 p.m., and 135-yard final attempts will be held at approximately 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 17, on the 9th hole of Echo Mesa Golf Course. The final 9 golfers will draw a number to determine the hitting order.  Players 1 through 8 will get one attempt at a $250,000 Hole-in-One. The ninth player will be able to attempt one shot for a Million Dollar Hole-in-One!

  1. Bob Verga says:

I would like to say that I’m really disappointed in the Hole in One contest this year. I have showed up the last two days between 5 and 6 o-clock to try my luck and hit some balls only to find out that it was shut down already. I don’t know was a favorite already closes to the pin on those days. If your saying it is too windy, well everyone hits in the same conditions. I know I was here every day last year donating money, but I’m not sure if I’ll be back again.
