Jim has been active in Sun City West for more than four years. He is in the Woodworking Club, where he was president serving the more than 900 club members in 2015-16. He also belongs to the Computer Club (part of the Genius Bar), the Cycling Club, and West Valley Chorale. He is enrolled in the spring 2017 TORCH Academy.

Jim spent 35 years in non-profit work, including 20 as a Salvation Army officer/ordained minister with various assignments. These included leadership of social services programs, development of high functioning community advisory boards, strategic planning, capital project management, budget preparation, and oversight of business units of more than 150 employees and budgets greater than $13 million annually.

He was a middle and high school music teacher, as well as a small business owner, while living in Sacramento.

Jim married Barbara Sloan, who still works for the Salvation Army and directs social services programs in the Phoenix Metro area.

He earned a bachelor’s degree and his teaching credentials from California State University in Sacramento.
