Subject:          Weekly Activity Report – May 08, 2017

 

Projects:

  1. K. L. McIntyre has completed the installation of new cabinets in the Library Kitchen area. Countertops will be installed as soon as in the few days.  Electricians will be on site Tuesday or Wednesday to finish the electrical work.

 

  1. DFG Builders have started framing on the fencing for the new tennis court at the RH Johnson Tennis Facility. Painters will be on site this morning to paint the framing.  Chain Link fencing will be installed Thursday or Friday.

 

  1. DFG Builders has installed the seat cap on the Admin. Courtyard planters. The steel fabricator has field verified measurements and will schedule the installation of the side panels by the end of this week.

 

  1. The Scope of Work for the Library remodel has been completed and a Request for Proposal (RFP) will be scheduled for vendors to talk the project on Tuesday, May 9, 2017.

 

  1. Plans have been completed for the Automotive Restoration Paint Booth and have been sent out for bid. Bidders will walk the site on Tuesday, May 9.

 

  1. Contractors will walk the Rip’n Sew Club Facility on Tuesday to bid out the counter top replacement project.

 

  1. The Sign Package will be sent out to bidders today for the remainder of the building signage to include the new sign for the Pickleball Courts.

 

  1. Plans for the R.H. Johnson Tennis Court restrooms have been completed and will be sent out to bidders today.

 

  1. American Asphalt is to be here on May 16 and May 17 to repair the damage to the Palm Ridge Parking area where the golf cart and car fire took place.

 

  1. ForeSite is pouring the floor on the walking pool & zero entry this morning.

 

  1. ForeSite sprayed the Gunite on the main pool walls last week.

 

  1. Drywall material arrived this morning for the RH Johnson pool lobby area.

 

Sports Pavilion:

  1. Our Sunday Special brought in $265 in revenue and Tuesday’s Bowling Special brought in $112.

 

  1. Congratulations go out to Brad Craven for bowling a perfect 300 game. This is the first time in 49 years of bowling that Brad has accomplished this. Way to go Brad!

 

  1. 108 Bowling VIP Cards have been sold to date.

 

Recreation:

  1. Unfortunately, our Saturday Movie in the Park, Sully, was cancelled due to high winds. The two movies we’ve had to cancel this season, Jackie and Sully, will be rescheduled for May 20 and May 27 respectively.  This week’s Movie on May 13 is Hidden Figures.  You are welcome to bring your own chair.

 

  1. The next event is our Memorial Day Celebration on Saturday, May 28 at Palm Ridge. This event is free and open to City West residents only.  Two tickets are available per Rec. Card Holder.

 

  1. The next public Tennis Court Repair Project Forum is scheduled for Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 10 a.m. in the Social Hall.

 

Library:

  1. Friends of the Library Book sale on Sat. May 6 was well attended and very successful.

 

  1. The Library Kitchenette Project is coming along nicely. Cabinets have been installed and we expect to have the sink and countertop installed before the end of this week.

 

  1. Work on the 2017 Summer Puzzle began last Wed. Our puzzlers are making very good progress on this year’s selection.

 

Village Store:

  1. Sales at the Village Store for the month of April were up 14.6% over the same time-period last year.

 

  1. We are working with the Bank on setting up the new credit card chip readers so that they work properly for the next big sales event.

 

Environmental Services:

  1. Following aerification, Pebblebrook will be opened for play tomorrow, Tuesday, May 9.

 

  1. Echo Mesa Golf course will be closed for aerification on Thursday, May 11 and reopen on Tuesday May 16.

 

  1. The Landscaping crew continues to finish up the landscaping around the Palm Ridge Swimming Pool.

 

  1. We will be laser leveling the Lawn Bowl Courts over the next couple of weeks.

 

Golf Operations:

  1. Revenue is down about $3,000 and 400 rounds for the month of April over prior year. We’re hoping the cool weather this week increases play on the courses.

 

  1. Our Golf Cart Maintenance employee attended an Easy Go Golf Cart repair and maintenance seminar last week.

 

  1. We are working on golf specials for the month of June, July and August.

 

  1. Range revenue is $57,000. We have sold 1,100 debit key to date.

 

General Services:

  1. Katy will be attending an ABC speaking engagement with GM Mike Whiting at Briarwood on Wednesday of this week. Title of this presentation is “What is Sun City West?”

 

  1. Diana Starbuck will be teaching some upcoming Explore! classes on Pinterest, Etsy, You Tube in the near future.

 

  1. The T-1 lines (telephone) were reported being down at Pebblebrook Golf Course. It currently only involves the phone lines but sometimes can lead into other technical problems.  We are working to correct the problem.

 

Facility Maintenance:

  1. We are 50% done with the painting of the exterior walls of the Men’s Club. We switched colors up a bit and it’s looking great.

 

  1. There is still a water leak at RHJ which is coming from the indoor spa at RHJ. Russ & Larry will be getting bids on redoing the shell and jets.

 

  1. Some of the RHJ roof drains drain off to the front of the building and others drain off to the back of the building depositing water into the construction area. We are working to relocate where the drainage takes place to keep it out of the construction area.

 

  1. Clocks have been installed at the RH Johnson Tennis Court Facility.

 

Financial Services:

  1. Financials for the month of April will be posted this week.

 

  1. The Public Budget Forums held over the last two weeks went very well. Many good questions were asked and gave us the opportunity to provide a response to all questions brought up.  We thank everyone for their participation and attendance at these forums.

 

Human Resources:

  1. We attended a labor seminar last week which basically left us with more unanswered questions than answers as the Minimum Wage Rule the seminar was dealing with had not yet been finalized into law. We will be getting more information as it becomes available.

 

Management:

  1. We were finally able to track down the person responsible for the financials of one of the clubs that has not completed its annual financial reporting. We hope to get this issue resolved and the financials completed in the near future.

Two tickets are available per rec card and are available now at the RH Johnson Box Office, 19803 RH Johnson Blvd. High Priority is a men’s barbershop quartet that won the AZ Seniors Quartet Championship of Barbershop Society in 2014, and placed second in an International Competition in 2015. A new foursome, including Ray Estes (tenor), Byron Bennett (Lead), Mark House (Baritone) and Dave Davenport (Bass) are enthusiastic about entertaining audiences all over the country. Simply A Cappella is an award-winning, all-female chorus based in Tempe. The chorus was founded in 2011 with 11 members and has grown vocally and in size under the direction of Director Cary Burns. Since its inception, the chorus has grown to 32 members and won first place for Small Chorus and fourth place overall in Sweet Adelines International regional competitions in 2014 and 2015. The group was thrilled to win first place again for Small Chorus in 2016.

    The urinal in the restroom at Kuentz tennis court was mounted too high. Standard height is 24″ above floor to the lip not 28″. ADA standard is 17″ ABove finished floor. Tell Running Construction to do it right. We paid them they should fix it free.

    Good morning Dudley, we asked Cathy Peterson to look back through her notes to see what this meant. Regular clocks were installed at RHJ Tennis, not time clocks. Sorry for the error, thanks for pointing it out.
