Parade entries sought

It’s nearly December, which means time is passing quickly for those interested in participating in Sun City West’s 40th Anniversary Parade.

Applications are being accepted now from clubs, organizations and others interested in entering the parade, scheduled on Monday, Feb. 19. Entry fee is $25 per group, and application packets are available from the Sun City West Box Office, 19803 R.H. Johnson Blvd., or online at scwaz.com. Deadline to apply is Jan. 1, 2018.

The parade is just one event Sun City West’s Celebration Team is planning to celebrate our community’s amazing accomplishments and values since 1978. Parade entry is not limited to Sun City West chartered clubs. Non-chartered clubs, organizations and informal groups are welcome!

The Centennial Parade in 2012, which many of our community members participated in, contributed to the success of that event. Once again, Sun City West clubs are invited to participate in this parade to celebrate the 40th Anniversary.

Applications can be downloaded below, or picked up at the Box Office.  All Charter Clubs and residents are invited to participate.  Dig into your imaginations on how to display and promote your club or yourself to new club members and new residents of the community.

The parade will begin 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, 2018 (President’s Day). The parade will start at the parking lot in back of R.H. Johnson Rec Center for motor-type vehicles (carts, bikes, floats etc.), and will move on to Meeker Boulevard to the intersection of 135th Avenue. There it will connect with walkers, bands and dignitaries, then continue down Meeker and end at Beardsley Park. Sun City West clubs and organizations who want to be represented by marching or creating a float to ride in the parade are invited to send in applications now.

Your local Fire Department would like to assist. Thank you.

  2. Linda O'Donnell says:

I do not have an entry but do have a comment. When I first moved to Arizona from Upstate New York in 1978, the first job I held when I arrived was as a receptionist at Del Webb on Central Avenue. I remember attending a “grand opening” one evening while employed there. Who would have thought at that time that I would now be living in Sun City West?!? I do remember thinking, on my car ride to the event, “are we almost there yet?” as there was not much built on Bell Road at the time, and it seemed like a very long drive.

Great memories Linda, thanks for sharing!
