Bowling fans can look forward to watching three-time Senior Bowler of the Year and two-time past Saguaro champion Ron Moore, past Saguaro champion Ron Winger, and last year’s Saguaro winner Robert Harvey match skills and talent.

Among the other pro bowlers participating in this year’s tournament are Henry Gonzalas, Harry Sullens, Kevin Croucher, Kenny Parks, Roger Painter and Dick Baker.  To compete in this tournament, bowlers must have an average of 200+ and be over the age of 50.

Sun City West bowlers Bill Poff, Gregory Waldon and Jerry Schwitzke will bowl the PBA Senior Masters and USBC Senior U.S. Open tournaments in Las Vegas before competing here at this year’s Saguaro Open.

“This year the tournament is adding an additional $3,000 to the purse, which should really ramp up the competition,” said Tournament Director Mel Shirey.  “We always have a good turn-out and the bowlers put on a good show.”

The pros will start the tournament with a scheduled practice session on Monday, May 26, from 3 to 5 p.m.  Qualifying rounds will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 27.  The top 16 bowlers will compete at 3 p.m. that afternoon.  Finals will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, and will continue throughout the morning with trophy presentations beginning around noon.  The first-place tournament trophy is currently on display at Johnson Lanes.

For the fifth straight year, local Realtor Lona King is primary sponsor and host of the tournament. Jim and Toni Ballard, owners of Window World of Phoenix, and Dr. Bruce Richardson with Arrowhead Health Centers are two of the associate sponsors.

Bleacher seating will be provided throughout the tournament for those residents interested in getting a close-up look at their favorite Senior PBA bowlers. If you want to know more about this tournament contact the Sports Pavilion or call Tournament Director Mel Shirey at 623-544-6171.
