RCSCW director resigns; five openings in March election

Recreation Centers of Sun City West Governing Board Director Mikal Haaheim has resigned from the Board, effective Feb. 23.

Haaheim cited personal and health reasons for his resignation. His last official meeting will be the regular Board meeting 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, in the Lecture Hall.

Haaheim’s resignation leaves two vacancies on the Board, as Director Ernie Prindle had resigned in December. The Board’s March election will have five vacancies to fill, as President Wanda Schnabel, Treasurer Jim Young and Director Tim Hurley also will see their terms end. Hurley had been appointed to fill a one-year vacancy, and is eligible to run for his own three-year term, which he is doing.

Seven candidates are running for the Board: Tim Hurley, George Kuchtyak Jr., Marion Mosley, Glen Renshaw, Jim Sloan, Vivien Wallis, and Bryan Walus. (There is no relation between Wallis and Walus.)

The top three vote-getters will earn three-year terms, the fourth-highest will get the two-year term; and the fifth-highest will earn the one-year term.

Additionally, the top two vote-getters who are not already serving on the Board will immediately be seated to fill the remaining portions of seats that were vacated by Haaheim and Prindle. (Director Tim Hurley already serves on the Board and will still be serving the conclusion of his one-year appointment when the Election results are in.) At the conclusion of those terms on June 30, the new Directors will continue on with their own three-year terms beginning July 1.
