Tennis Club holds charity golf tournament
The Sun City West Tennis Club held a charity golf tournament at Deer Valley Golf Course in February. Proceeds from the tournament’s silent auction were donated to the St. Mary’s Food Bank in the amount of $2,000 and over 100 pounds of non-perishable food items.
It was a slightly brisk and windy day that began with a putting contest, won by Rudy Velasquez. The contest was then followed by a “100 ball drop” sponsored by Memo’s Bistro. Lucky number 13 fell into the hole, making Patricia Rivas the grand prize winner!
No handicap was needed for this modified scramble, with a Las Vegas style format. Participants “rolled the dice” to see which player’s drive they would use. Of course, there were Mulligans to be purchased, and many were used. A horseshoe hole proved to be unlucky for some, but all agreed that the event was a fun and entertaining way to spend the day.
Prizes were awarded for those teams that finished first, fifth, eleventh, and sixteenth places. Prizes for closest to the pin, drive closest to the line and many door prizes were awarded throughout the night of the banquet. Jan Morrow was the ladies’ closest to the pin participant, and Bob Dimock was the men’s. When an accurate drive was needed on the Closest to the Line Hole, Janet Simcic pulled it off.
There were many sponsors, clubs, individuals, and volunteers who worked together to make this charitable event possible. The Sun City West Tennis Club and St. Mary’s Food Bank is grateful to everyone who played a part in making the day so successful, whether by their sponsorship, donation of silent auction items, door prizes, or volunteer time.
The Sun City West Tennis Club held a “100 Ball Drop” in conjunction with their charity golf tournament. Nibby Musso, Deer Valley Pro, holds the winning ball, lucky # 13, for $1,000. Maybe the number 13 is lucky after all:
